A New Counselor

By Abby Davidson

Before coming to Mount Vernon High School he was a counselor at South Tama High School. Prior to that he was a social worker. Now he’s here with us. His name is Brett Karkosh. And lucky for us he’s excited to be here.

“I’m most excited for building positive relationships with the students and becoming more familiar with the community,” Karkosh said.

Karkosh has always had a passion for working with children. It’s what brought him to us. Now that he’s here hoping to make a difference. He’s always had to ability to build positive connections with children and educators. Back at South Tama Karkosh handled more cultural diversity, so he’s prepared for what’s coming his way in our small town.

“He is really helpful in guiding me through the college application process,” said senior Emily Wery.
So far Karkosh is off to a running start here. He’s been helping seniors with college and helping freshmen adjust to their new schedules, and everything in between.
