After a short week of competing, another Mustang wrestler has reached 100 wins. This time, it’s junior Paul Ryan, competing at 170 pounds for his postseason run.

During an eventful day at districts, Ryan and his coaches didn’t even realize that he reached this milestone. Just a few short days later, Ryan’s coaches realized what he had done. Ryan wrestled at the district tournament with teammates Ryan Clark, Jack Streicher, Coy Martin, Camron Woodley, and Preston Shultz. Of the six wrestlers, three get the chance to compete in the state tournament: Clark, Ryan, and Woodley. Ryan ended the day in second place, which punches his ticket to wrestle as an individual at state on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

“It was pretty cool though, and it shows me that my hard work is paying off. Hopefully it continues to pay off this weekend and next year,” said Ryan. Ryan, 36-7 on the season, will wrestle Kyle Owens of Shenandoah in the first round. Owens is a senior, and has a record of 50-7 on the season. Ryan hopes to continue to achieve success as he wrestles the last few matches of his season.

Paul Ryan, at 160 lbs, drives his opponent. Ryan pinned Jacob Morgan.
