On Thursday Dec. 1, Magical Night took place in uptown Mount Vernon. Magical Night is when families come together to celebrate Christmas and when students show off their talents. Businesses also open up their doors, allowing our music students to play their instruments and showcase their voices in holiday songs. At the First Street building, elementary students created a snowflake Chandelier in the gym, while student council members helped children decorate cookies.

Orchestra players serenaded shoppers in stores, the jazz band played at the fire station, while the choir sang at the bank.

Lily Cripe’s favorite thing about Magical Night is getting to “make beautiful music.” Cripe set up in Scarlet Boutique and played her viola with Leia Kaminsky.  Cripe has played in Magical Night since sixth grade. Cripe prepared by selecting music, and said she wasn’t nervous to play at all.

Freshman Danielle Homrighausen played her Tenor Sax with the jazz band. Homrighausen meets with jazz band every other morning and practiced to help prepare for Magical Night along with other events like this. Unlike Cripe she admits to being a bit nervous.

Sam Krapfl sang at the bank with the choir, and also played in the jazz band. His favorite thing about Magical Night is “singing song after song without anyone getting annoyed with me.” He’s participated in Magical Night all four years of high school. Krapfl met with the choir on Sunday nights, starting early November to prepare.

The event drew a big crowd due to good weather, and students were happy to showcase their talents.
